The Landscape Institute is recruiting for a number of leadership roles to help shape the future direction, impact and governance of the Institute.
From 30 January, recruitment will open for Chairs of two Standing Committees: Education and Careers Committee (ECC) and Knowledge and Practice Committee (KPC). These roles sit at the heart of the LI’s governance and delivery, with each Chair holding an ex-officio place on the LI Board as a Trustee.
In addition to these roles, recruitment for an exciting new role, Chair of the Board, will open later in February (date to be confirmed). This role is in line with our New Ways of Working and aims to focus on leadership and governance of the Board. This role will be open to both members and non-members, with details to follow.
Standing Committee recruitment
The Standing Committees were launched in 2025 to strengthen governance, increase external impact and put members at the centre of the LI’s work. Chairs play a critical role in setting direction, enabling collaboration, and ensuring the effective delivery of our workstreams.
These are influential leadership positions, offering the opportunity to shape strategy, support members across the UK and internationally, and contribute directly to the leadership and governance of the Institute.
After the hard work and dedication of our outgoing Chairs, Chris House CMLI (Chair of ECC) and Jane Findlay FLI PPLI (Interim Chair of KPC), we are looking to the future and encourage new leaders to come forward.
Chair of the Education and Careers Committee
The Education and Careers Committee provides strategic oversight of the LI’s education and careers activity. It supports the delivery of the Institute’s Royal Charter objectives by advising on higher education, alternative entry routes, careers development, and widening participation, while promoting landscape as a career of choice.
About the role
The Chair provides leadership to the Committee, working closely with LI staff and volunteers to shape strategy, guide delivery and ensure member needs are reflected in priorities and outputs. The role includes an ex-officio place on the LI Board and offers the opportunity to be actively involved in the recruitment and development of committee membership throughout 2026 and beyond, helping to build a diverse and effective leadership group.
About the candidate
The successful candidate will bring senior experience in landscape practice and/or academia, with a strong understanding of education policy, careers frameworks and professional development. A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and the ability to lead collaboratively across a complex professional landscape, are essential.

It supports the development and dissemination of best practice, strengthens the relationship between research and practice, and ensures the Institute’s technical work reflects member priorities and professional standards.
About the role
The Chair provides strategic and delivery-focused leadership, ensuring the Committee operates effectively and inclusively while overseeing multiple workstreams and task-and-finish groups. As an ex-officio Trustee, the Chair contributes directly to Board-level discussions and decisions, and will also be involved in recruitment to the Committee throughout 2026 and beyond, supporting continuity, skills balance and representation.
About the candidate
The role is suited to a senior professional with strong experience across landscape practice, research or technical leadership, and a clear understanding of how guidance and standards are developed, tested and used. The Chair will be confident operating at a strategic level, able to balance differing perspectives and maintain focus on delivery and outcomes.
