The geotechnical survey showed that the ground beneath the surface became more unstable with depth and that differential movement was likely. Therefore a flexible paved surface was designed using 80 x 80 x 80 granite setts with cropped sides and sawn top, providing the the interlocking stability required. Further structural issues were involved in fitting the linear LED lighting into the stone surface.
