The aim of this analysis was to examine five potential growth locations on the edge of Peterborough, as part of the London-Stansted-Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Corridor. This involved the preparation of an overarching strategy to identify fundamental environmental constraints for each of the locations as well as identifying opportunities for new green infrastructure. Each potential development location was also assessed, using GIS, as to how it could deliver the required standards of green space provision and provide buffers around existing important or sensitive sites and habitats. The outputs of the analysis were intended to help inform the Preferred Options stage of the Council’s Core Strategy. The outputs will also contribute to the realisation of the Peterborough Natural Networks initiative, which aims to significantly improve the quality of life for existing and future communities through the provision of green infrastructure. The document is publicly available to developers, landowners and practitioners, in order to help steer their future development choices.Following Phase 1 a full Green Infrastructure Strategy has been produced by The Landscape Partnership, covering the whole of the Authority. A more detailed study has also been prepared for an area to the south of the City, South Peterborough Green Parks, which relates the green infrastructure requirements of the overarching strategy to an area undergoing large-scale growth. A detailed Delivery Plan for the South Peterborough Green Parks area has also been produced, with stakeholder buy-in being achieved through consultation events.
