Hugh Baird College, Bootle

Taylor Young, Liverpool

Taylor Young has been appointed to provide architecture, landscape, urban design and planning services to deliver a new college campus at a primary location, on the edge of Bootle town centre, on a greenspace/park site. Given the sensitivity of the site and Sefton Council’s concerns for the future of the existing college site, Taylor Young worked in conjunction with the Council to prepare a Development Framework. The Development Framework comprises a robust evidence base of planning policy appraisals, a greenspace assessment; urban design
analysis; and design options.

Taylor Young have so far secured a Council Committee resolution for the sale of the preferred development site to Hugh Baird College. The team are in the process of completing Stage C which outlines the findings of a College Feasibility Study together with the details of the preferred architectural option. A key planning component of the feasibility study is an Alternative Sites Assessment, which Taylor Young has prepared. It justifies development on the preferred site over other sites, and is a vital mechanism to justify development on the greenspace/park site. Together, this information is essential towards submitting the in principal capital application to the Learning Skills Council and securing the required development funds.

Stage D will begin at the beginning of 2009 in which Taylor Young will coordinate and prepare the planning application, with the goal of securing planning permission by mid summer.
