East Float Wirral Waters

Wirral Waters is currently one of the largest regeneration projects in the UK, part of a long term vision to transform the historic and largely derelict docklands in Birkenhead into a world class waterfront extending the economic heart of the City of  Liverpool across the Mersey and into an area of real need.

It is part of a much broader concept called ‘Ocean Gateway’, an initiative helping to improve the economic productivity of the North West.

Wirral Waters seeks to deliver up to 17 million square feet of mixed use floor space; and, at its heart the East Float quarter incorporates a tall building cluster ‘Sky City’, alongside 13,000 new homes, 4m sq ft of office and R&D accommodation, an education hub and cultural facilities.

Tyler Grange LLP was commissioned to undertake an LVIA and to provide tall building advice in relation to locally designated strategic views and potential impacts upon the adjoining Grade 1 Listed Hamilton Square and Birkenhead Park, which is said to have influenced the design  of New York’s Central Park.  Despite the likelihood of some adverse effects on local heritage assets, it was concluded that there would not be an unacceptable adverse effect on the Liverpool World Heritage Site.

After 4 years of thorough engagement and masterplanning the scheme received planning approval.  The £4.5 Billion investment is now firmly placed to becoming reality, offering the hope of over 20,000 new jobs over the next 30 years.
