Brief

The project aimed to turn a disused and run-down urban cemetery into a well used small public park. The design was to create a sense of place with tranquillity appropriate for a cemetery whilst providing for contemporary activities and opportunities for social interaction and relaxation. The site image, identity and perception of personal safety needed improving as well as it’s biodiversity. A new piece of public art was to be included as part of the park design.

Planting

The majority of the planting, particularly among the remaining memorials is herbaceous drift planting using species chosen for longevity and those able to survive low levels of maintenance with an annual strim and clean through in early spring. This inludes a large proportion of ornamental grasses and other plants with attractive dry winter stems and seed heads.
