We live in a heavily nature depleted country, where the tide appears to be changing with respect to how biodiversity is regarded in policy and design development. This changing tide is a call to arms for us to work more efficiently and creatively to protect and enhance biodiversity. As landscape architects and practitioners, we are incredibly well placed to facilitate this change.

In this edition, we explore how we can reframe our thinking around nature (page16), how landscape professionals of all specialisms can impact biodiversity outcomes, and gain insight from a developer’s perspective on biodiversity (page 35). Key to this edition are articles from all four nations sharing knowledge of the evolving policies and approaches each are taking to tackle the biodiversity crisis (pages 48-55). Further, academic authors detail practical changes we can make to the work that we do to positively impact biodiversity and consider the implications of climate change (pages 57-63).

We need to use this excitement and ‘buzz’ for biodiversity as a ‘leg-up’ to maximise positive change for biodiversity. I hope this edition inspires and empowers you in the plethora of ways we, as landscape practitioners, can help reverse the biodiversity crisis in the everyday work that we do.
